Abstract
Game-based learning is one of many teaching approaches that incorporate games in learning a certain subject, where numerous studies have been proven and tested. Game- based learning in Contextualized and Localized Approach in Teaching (G-C.L.A.T.) is the innovative strategy developed by the researcher that aims to address the pathological fear of the Grade 7 students and improve their academic performance in the subject of mathematics along the way. The study found that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of both pathological fear and academic performance of the students. Their post-test scores were higher than their pre-test scores after the implementation of the strategy. The utilization of G-C.L.A.T. shows a significant relationship between the two (2) variables, the pathological fear and academic performance of the students. According to the tables presented, there is a negative or inverse relationship, wherein when the academic performance increases, pathological fear decreases, and vice versa. Meaning, the strategy has a positive impact on students in learning the subject. According to the study, incorporating contextualized and localized relevant games into mathematics training can help bridge the gap between learning and enjoyment and make mathematical concepts more relatable and approachable, in addition to addressing students' pathological fear. Recommendations include using the G-C.L.A.T. on a daily basis for a more engaging and motivating learning process that will help in addressing students’ pathological fear of the subject. There can also be seminars and training courses for the teachers to be equipped as well, to get involved in the development and implementation of the approach. The innovative strategy is also recommended to be recognized by administrators, teachers, students, and parents when it comes to the benefits it offers. Parents, on the other hand, should encourage their children in learning this type of strategy so that their children feel comfortable and learn the subject without any pressure. Lastly, the results can help other researchers in terms of the possible long- term impact of G-C.L.A.T. They can develop a new study that can address the pathological fear of the students and later enhance their academic performance in the subject of mathematics.
