Abstract

This study investigated the moderating role of motivation on the relationship between confidence, engagement, and academic performance among 69 Grade 7 learners in the MATATAG Curriculum at Pilar National High School. It aimed to determine how students’ confidence and classroom engagement influenced their academic performance and whether motivation strengthened or weakened these effects. A quantitative correlational research design was employed, utilizing standardized questionnaires to measure confidence, engagement, and motivation, along with students’ academic records to assess performance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlational analysis, and moderation analysis. Results revealed that confidence and engagement were positively associated with academic performance, and motivation significantly moderated these relationships, enhancing the impact of both confidence and engagement on learners’ achievement. The study emphasized the importance of fostering both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation to support students’ academic growth. Practical implications were offered for teachers and school administrators, highlighting strategies that build self-confidence, sustain engagement, and strengthen motivation to improve academic outcomes in the MATATAG Curriculum.
