Factors Affecting the Development of Reading Comprehension Skills of Junior High School Students in a Private School in Macalelon, Quezon

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the Factors Affecting the Development of Reading Comprehension Skills of Junior High School Student in a Private School in Macalelon, Quezon, because of past pandemic situation every student has a hard time to focus their study so that it can cause them a low level of comprehension skill. The study involved 100 respondents from a private school in Macalelon, Quezon. The researcher used questionnaires to gather reliable data to be answered by the target respondents. The descriptive method was used gather the data needed to determine the factors affecting the development of reading comprehension skills of junior high school students in Macalelon, Quezon. Most of the respondents are female (54%) while the remaining are male (46%), the age range of 15 years old (34%), 14 years old (29%), 13 years old (24%), 16 years old fall into (13%). Respondents are from grade 7 (20%), grade 8 (29%), grade 9 (26%), and grade 10 (25%). The result shows that under factors affecting the development of reading comprehension skills in terms of learning strategies, respondents agreed that in learning strategies, through different reading references, they developed their reading comprehension skill with the mean of 4.19 which is the highest mean. Under factors affecting the development of reading comprehension skills in terms of school instruction, respondents agreed that in factors affecting the development of reading comprehension skills, that school should provide reading materials that can help in teaching reading and other related issues to enhance reading comprehension with the mean of 4.16.
