Abstract
The study determined the effectiveness of the instructional module on Rawitdawit (Bikol Poetry) and Osipon (Bikol Fiction) in the English proficiency of Grade 8 students in Lupi-Iligan National High School, Lupi District, Division of Camarines Sur, during the school year 2025–2026. Specifically, it measured the English proficiency of students in evaluating literary texts along structural, biographical, historical, sociocultural, and linguistic contexts before and after the use of instructional module; developed and validated the instructional module through the ADDIE model; assessed the significant difference in students’ English proficiency before and after the use of the module; assessed the effectiveness of the module in enhancing students’ performance in English 8. The sampling technique employed was total enumeration. Respondents consisted of 25 Grade 8 students from a heterogeneous class who served as the recipients of the module, while Master Teachers and English major teachers in the Lupi District acted as validators. A descriptive-comparative research design was employed. Major conclusions were: the status of English Proficiency of the Students in Evaluating Literary texts during Pre-Test was at the Developing level; the module, developed through the ADDIE model and validated by experts, aligned with MATATAG standards and proved clear, relevant, and culturally authentic; the status of English Proficiency of the Students in Evaluating Literary texts during Post-Test was at approaching proficiency; there is a statistically significant improvement in the English proficiency of Grade 8 students after the use of the instructional module. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected, and the instructional module was highly effective in enhancing students’ English proficiency across multiple contexts. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected.
