Abstract
This study was conducted to explore the word problem-solving skills and mathematics performance of grade 3,4 and 5 pupils. Specifically, this sought to: (1) determine the level of pupils' word problem solving skills in Mathematics in Ricoro Elementary School; (2) assess the pupils' mathematics performance when categorized as outstanding, very satisfactory, satisfactory, fairly satisfactory, and did not meet expectation; and (3) find the relationship between the mathematics performance and the level of word problem solving skills of Grade 3,4 and 5 pupils of Ricoro Elementary School. This study employed a descriptive survey method wherein the researcher analyzed, interpreted, and reported the present status of the problem on the word problem skills of the pupils. Further, the pupils' mathematics performance and their level of word problem skills were all found to be significant and associated. Therefore, the pupils whose level of problem-solving skills is high are most likely to perform better in the mathematics subject. Hence, it is recommended that teachers continue enhancing their mathematical skills through attending seminars, webinars, and other related activities.
