Abstract
Difficulties in understanding algebraic expressions can negatively impact students' efficacy, motivation, and attitude toward mathematics, highlighting the importance of addressing these challenges early. Feedback requires a significant amount of time for teachers, who often manage numerous responsibilities. However, leveraging digital tools may provide targeted and timely feedback for students, reinforcing their learning. Recognizing this significant role of timely feedback in mathematics learning, this classroom-based action research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of timely, technology-enhanced feedback using Quizizz™ in supporting struggling learners. Six purposively selected Grade 10 students, identified as poor performers in algebraic expressions, participated in the intervention. Permissions were secured from the school, the math teacher, the participants, and their parents prior to the intervention being conducted. During the intervention, weekly lessons were followed by formative assessments through the mobile application. Results in the pre-test and post-test scores, Quizizz performance metrics, and formative assessments demonstrated improvement in students' performance, particularly in the multiplication and division of algebraic expressions. Qualitative data from interviews and classroom observations revealed the positive impact of timely feedback on students' learning experiences. The findings underscore the potential of technology-based feedback tools to enhance mathematics learning, offering critical support for struggling learners when integrated with appropriate educational practices.
