Abstract

This study explored the lived experiences of Gen Z breadwinners in Midsayap, Cotabato, focusing on their challenges, coping mechanisms, and insights. Using a qualitative phenomenological research design, the study involved six (6) young adult breadwinners aged twenty-four (24) to twenty-six (26). Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. Findings revealed that young adult breadwinners assumed breadwinning roles due to financial constraints, family crises, and cultural expectations. They experienced work-life imbalance, emotional strain, and personal sacrifices but demonstrated resilience through financial management, social support, and perseverance. The study concludes that breadwinning fosters maturity despite its challenges and responsibilities. It is recommended that government agencies, social workers, and community organizations develop targeted programs, including financial assistance, mental health services, and livelihood opportunities, to support young adult breadwinners and promote their overall well-being.
