Abstract
Araling Panlipunan (AP) is one of the most essential learning areas in the Philippine K–12 curriculum, aiming to develop socially aware, critically minded, and responsible citizens. This subject focuses on the understanding of Philippine history, geography, economics, politics, and culture, helping students connect past events to contemporary issues. It enables learners to analyze societal challenges, appreciate cultural diversity, and participate actively in nation-building. This study aimed to determine the relationship between instructional approaches in Araling Panlipunan and the critical thinking skills of Grade 7 learners. This study employed a descriptive-quantitative research design, focusing on observing, describing, and analyzing numerical data on the instructional approaches of Araling Panlipunan teachers and the critical thinking skills of Grade 7 learners. The study revealed that the effectiveness of Araling Panlipunan instruction is highly dependent on the diversity and quality of teaching strategies used in the classroom. Learners benefited from approaches that encouraged active engagement, collaboration, experiential learning, and the use of multimedia tools, which collectively enhanced their ability to think critically, analyze information, make sound judgments, and solve problems effectively. Lastly, teachers should combine lecture, collaborative, project-based, and multimedia approaches to strengthen critical thinking.
