Abstract
This study investigates the factors influencing the career choices of Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) students in the Municipality of Rosales for the school year 2024–2025, which served as the basis for policy recommendations. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study assesses the socio-demographic profile and the extent of parental and external influences faced by 164 purposively selected respondents from four public high schools. Key findings identify financial considerations as the most significant factor affecting career decisions, followed by the school environment, societal and cultural expectations, and family expectations. On the other hand, peer influence was rated low. Correlation analysis reveals that socio-demographic variables, including age, sex, family income, and parental education, do not have a statistically significant relationship with the extent of these external influences, suggesting they are pervasive across the student population. The study proposes policy recommendations focused on implementing inclusive and strand-specific career guidance, integrating financial literacy workshops, and strengthening partnerships with families and industries. Recommendations also include enhancing career guidance delivery through regular orientation programs and increased exposure to real-world work environments. The study emphasizes the necessity of a responsive career support system to assist HUMSS students in making informed decisions aligned with both their aspirations and economic realities.
