Abstract
This study examined the relationship between self-efficacy and job motivation among Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management students undergoing on-the-job training (OJT). Self-efficacy plays a vital role in shaping students’ confidence in performing workplace tasks, while job motivation influences their enthusiasm, persistence, and overall engagement in internship activities. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the study assessed the levels of self-efficacy and job motivation and determined whether a significant relationship existed between these variables. The respondents consisted of 61 Tourism Management students selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-made questionnaire that underwent expert validation to establish content validity. Descriptive statistics, including weighted mean and standard deviation, were utilized to describe the respondents’ levels of self-efficacy and job motivation, while the Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to examine the relationship between the variables. The findings revealed that the respondents demonstrated an above-average level of self-efficacy (M = 4.15, SD = 0.53) and an above-average level of job motivation (M = 4.34, SD = 0.51). Furthermore, the results indicated a statistically significant and high positive relationship between self-efficacy and job motivation (r = .811, p < .001), suggesting that students who possess stronger confidence in their abilities tend to exhibit higher levels of motivation in their internship experiences. The study concludes that self-efficacy is an important psychological factor that contributes to students’ motivation and engagement in workplace settings. It recommends the integration of self-regulatory training, reflective learning activities, and psychological skills development programs to strengthen students’ confidence, resilience, and motivation during on-the-job training. Such interventions may contribute to improved internship outcomes and enhanced professional preparedness among future tourism practitioners.
