Retirement Planning of Selected Secondary Teachers in Gumaca, Quezon

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the retirement planning of selected secondary teachers in Gumaca, Quezon. It determined the profile of the respondents in terms of age, sex, teaching experience, current salary, and ranking position. The researcher used a descriptive method of research. This study employed a purposive sampling design. Under this procedure, the researcher considered using forty (40) selected secondary teachers in Gumaca, Quezon, to get 100% of the respondents. This study determined that most of the respondents are aged 51-55 and 56-60 years old, which accounts 40% of the total respondents. It revealed that the majority of the respondents are females, which accounts for 60% of the total respondents. This study revealed that the majority of the years of teaching experience are 21-25 years and 26 years and above, which accounts of 40% of the total respondents. It revealed that most of the respondents’ current salary is Php 43,560, which accounts of 22% of the total respondents. This study determined that most of the respondents' ranking positions are Head Teachers, which accounts of 22% of the total respondents. The respondent strongly agreed that they prioritize saving for retirement over other non-essential expenses, evidenced by the highest mean of 4.62. However, the respondents agree that they seek information or guidance on how to increase their retirement savings, evidenced by the lowest mean of 3.52. The grand mean is 4.05, interpreted as “agree”. Meanwhile, the respondents strongly agree that they are confident that their pension benefits will be enough to cover their basic needs after retirement, evidenced by the highest mean of 4.65. However, the respondents moderately agree that they clearly understand the pension policies and benefits available for secondary teachers, evidenced by the lowest mean of 3.37. The grand mean is 4.03, interpreted as “agree”. According to the result of the Kruskal Wallis H-Test, the null hypothesis of age, sex, years of teaching experiences, current salary, and ranking position are all rejected perceived responses of the respondents varies when grouped according to profile. From the results of this study, the following were recommended: this study may offer valuable insights into retirement planning and financial preparedness for educators. The Department of Budget and Management of the Philippines may enhance its understanding of effective budgeting and financial management practices. Teachers may give them more knowledge about retirement planning. To the Students, it may help them gain more understanding of retirement planning, and future researchers may use this study as a reference for their future studies.
