Elementary School Teachers’ Leadership Competence Vis-À-Vis Learners’ Success

Abstract

This research assessed the leadership competence of Elementary teachers in relation to their learners’ academic success in the identified schools of Ronda, Cebu, during the School Year 2020-2021 as a basis for an action plan. This study used a correlational descriptive research method to find out the relationship between teachers’ leadership competence and the learners’ academic success. Descriptive in the sense that it utilizes survey questionnaires to describe the responses of the teachers to determine the teachers' leadership competence in terms of fostering a collaborative culture, facilitating improvements and establishing standards, nurturing the ability to make good decision to peers and students, and performing as a referral leader as assessed by both teachers and school heads themselves. The respondents of the study were the school administrators and teachers in identified schools in the Ronda district. The tools that were used in analyzing and interpreting the data were the following: The simple percentage formula was used to determine the items on sub-problem number 1, or the respondents’ demographic profiles. The weighted mean computation was utilized for the teachers’ level of leadership competence as assessed by themselves and their school heads. Chi-square of the relationship was used to ascertain the significant relationship between the teachers’ leadership competence and their learners’ success. The teachers were rated as competent leaders as perceived by both teachers and their school heads. Their leadership competence has significantly influenced their students’ academic success. As such, there is still a need to improve teachers’ leadership to create a greater impact on students’ success. Administrators should consider enhancing teachers’ leadership competence to ensure excellent performance of the students. It is recommended that teachers engage in further studies and training to maximize their leadership practices. To improve the teacher’s leadership practices competence, it is also recommended that the action plan be implemented.
