Abstract

This study, titled “The Effect of Learning Flashcards in Improving the Reading Proficiency and Academic Performance of Grade 2 Learners in Guinayangan South District, Division of Quezon,” examined the effect of learning flashcards in improving the reading proficiency and Academic performance of 18 Grade 2 learners at Dancalan Caimawan Elementary School, Guinayangan South District, Division of Quezon. A pre-test and post-test design was employed to measure learners’ reading proficiency and performance before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation, as well as inferential statistics, specifically paired-sample t-tests and simple linear regression analysis. Findings revealed that the use of Learning Flashcards significantly improved learners’ reading proficiency, moving many from frustration and instructional levels to higher reading levels. Additionally, learners’ Academic performance showed notable improvement after the intervention. Regression analysis indicated that reading proficiency significantly predicted Academic performance. The results suggest that Learning Flashcards are an effective instructional tool for supporting literacy development and improving academic performance among young learners.
