Abstract
This study sought to understand how President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., transmitted messages by examining linguistic patterns and identifying presuppositions in his first SONA. Using qualitative methodologies, specifically presupposition analysis, one corpus was given for this study. Although there are many morphological characteristics, this study revolves on the affixation, compounding, and initialism that were prominent in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s first SONA. Additionally, this study identified four discourse styles that were present in President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s first SONA - description, narrative, exposition, and argument. Additionally, in order to achieve the purpose of presupposition in this study, six (6) different types of presupposition were used in the speech - existential, lexical, structural, non-factive, and counter-factual. Thus, it used presupposition kinds, discourse types, and morphological traits. Accordingly, it is also recommended that future researchers investigate the same problem utilizing a variety of other methodologies from those used in this study. The insights and discoveries from these future investigations will allow for the improvement of the current speeches.
