Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the most controversial since it was invented; it shows quick progress in a single click, especially for the learners who used it to improve their written outputs. This study aimed to determine the level of artificial intelligence (AI) utilization, the perceived writing competence of Humanities and Social Sciences students, and whether there is a significant relationship between artificial intelligence utilization and the perceived writing competence of the students. This study was conducted in Malalag Cogon National High School (MCNHS). A correlational method approach was used as the research design. The researcher used survey questionnaires to gather the data with fifty-seven (57) HUMSS students as respondents of the study. Spearman Rho and weighted mean were the statistical tools used in this study. The results indicated that the level of artificial intelligence (AI) utilization is high. It means that the students agree that they utilized artificial intelligence in writing. On the other hand, perceived writing competence in terms of content, organization and mechanics is high. In addition, content, organization and mechanics all obtained high results. Additionally, the results showed that there is a significant relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) utilization and perceived writing competence of the students. Moreover, to further enhance the writing skills of students, researchers recommended that students should be responsible and must balance the uses of artificial intelligence as a tool for the improvement of their written output, and being fully dependent on it, but the students should prioritize the importance of the originality of their thoughts and knowledge.
