Abstract

This study examined the relationship between cash management practices and business success among market vendors in Midsayap, Cotabato, Philippines. Specifically, it determined the level of cash management practices in terms of cash planning, cash forecasting, financial control and reporting, short-term investment of cash surplus, staff competence and skills, and accounting information, as well as the level of business success in terms of sales growth, profitability, time in business, and capital growth. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were gathered from 100 market vendors through purposive sampling and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman’s rank-order correlation, and linear regression analysis. The findings revealed that market vendors demonstrated a high level of cash management practices, with accounting information receiving the highest rating and short-term investment of cash surplus receiving the lowest rating. The respondents also showed a high level of business success, particularly in profitability. Results further revealed a significant positive relationship between cash management practices and business success. Regression analysis confirmed that cash management practices significantly predict business success, indicating that effective cash planning, forecasting, financial control, and accurate record-keeping contribute to improved profitability, sales growth, capital growth, and business sustainability. Based on the findings, the study recommends that market vendors strengthen their financial recording, cash planning, and forecasting practices. Local government units, market administrators, and financial institutions are also encouraged to provide financial literacy training and accessible financial support programs to help market vendors improve their financial stability and long-term business performance.
