Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the responses of the Provincial Government of Cavite to disasters in selected coastal areas of the province. Specifically, it aimed to: (1) identify the demographic profile of PDRRMO personnel in terms of age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, and number of years in service; (2) analyze the responses of selected Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) personnel on disasters as assessed in terms of disaster preparedness, disaster mitigation, disaster response, and disaster recovery; (3) evaluate the responses of the Provincial Government of Cavite to disasters as assessed by selected residents; and (4) examine the significant difference between the assessments of PDRRMO personnel and selected residents in coastal areas regarding the disaster response efforts of the Provincial Government of Cavite. The study employed a descriptive–correlational research design to identify significant relationships and differences among the variables. The participants consisted of 131 PDRRMO personnel and 104 residents from selected coastal areas in Cavite. Findings revealed that the majority of PDRRMO personnel were between 31 and 50 years old, predominantly male, married, college graduates, and had been in service for 1 to 20 years. Among the four disaster management components, disaster response received the highest rating from the PDRRMO personnel. On the other hand, residents recognized prevention and mitigation, preparedness, and response as the primary disaster management activities implemented by the PDRRMO in their communities. There is a significant difference between the assessment of PDRRMO and residents in prevention and mitigation, preparedness and response.
