Abstract

This study examined the influence of parental involvement and child-friendly school environment on the quality of life of Grade 6 learners in selected public elementary schools in the Samal District. Using a quantitative descriptive-correlational research design, the study involved 172 Grade 6 learners selected through stratified random sampling. Standardized and validated survey questionnaires were utilized to measure parental involvement, child-friendly school environment, and learners’ quality of life. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, Pearson Product-Moment Correlation, and Multiple Linear Regression. Findings revealed that parental involvement was rated high (M = 4.17, SD = 0.52), indicating that parents frequently demonstrated support through guidance, communication, and participation in school-related activities. The child-friendly school environment was likewise rated high, suggesting that learners perceived their schools as safe, inclusive, supportive, and conducive to learning. Similarly, the quality of life of elementary learners obtained a high overall mean of 4.17 (SD = 0.52), reflecting positive experiences in school function, family relationships, environmental life, learning ability, vitality for life, and peer relationships. Correlation analysis revealed that parental involvement had a positive and moderately significant relationship with learners’ quality of life (r = .55, p < .05). Meanwhile, the child-friendly school environment demonstrated a strong positive and significant relationship with quality of life (r = .78, p < .001). Regression analysis further showed that parental involvement (β = .13, p = .04) and child-friendly school environment (β = .70, p < .001) significantly influenced learners’ quality of life, with a combined explanatory power of 61% (R² = .61). The findings emphasize the importance of strengthening family–school partnerships and sustaining child-friendly educational environments to promote learners’ holistic well-being and quality of life.
