Exploring the Challenges of Burnout Among Classroom Teachers: A Phenomenological Study

Abstract

This study explored the challenges of burnout among classroom teachers through a phenomenological study in Kibawe West, Division of Bukidnon, SY 2023-2024. In particular, this study determined the challenges of burnout among teachers and crafted a plan of action that can be implemented to help the teachers. This study utilized the phenomenological qualitative research design. It evaluated the lived experience of the teachers who had challenges of burnout in Kibawe West, Division of Bukidnon, SY 2023-2024. The first grand tour question was about the challenges of burnout among classroom teachers in Kibawe West, Division of Bukidnon, SY 2023-2024, while the second grand tour question was about the emerging themes extracted from participants' responses. This study revealed the following findings: Teachers Struggle but are Resilient in Facing Overwhelming Workloads and Burnout. Burnout significantly impacts teachers' motivation and job happiness. DepEd must hire non-teaching personnel to Mitigate Teacher Burnout in the Education System. Coping Mechanisms and Strategies Employed by Teachers to Mitigate or Manage Burnout. Prioritizing Self-Care and Work-Life Balance as Coping Strategies for Teacher Burnout. Considering the findings above and conclusions, the following recommendations are offered: Educators must give utmost importance to self-care and set clear limits to avoid experiencing burnout. Teachers may ask institutions and policymakers to prioritize the well-being of teachers by making structural adjustments. School heads and educational institutions should contemplate the recruitment of non-teaching staff to manage administrative duties, decrease excessive reporting obligations, and offer sufficient resources and support. Teachers may employ coping mechanisms such as implementing self-care, establishing limits, getting peer assistance, and participating in activities that offer happiness and relaxation. School heads may give top priority to the well-being of teachers and offer support by cultivating a work-life balance culture, supporting self-care activities, and encouraging transparent communication.
