Abstract
The exodus narratives of Filipino mathematics teachers show how teachers pursue professional growth in international educational sectors. Situated within the broader issue of teacher migration and shortages in the Philippine education system, the study investigates the exodus narratives of Filipino mathematics teachers, the role of professional growth in motivating migration, their adaptation to cultural, pedagogical, and administrative contexts in host countries, and the professional skills, knowledge, values, and networks they gain through international employment. It also accounts for similarities and differences across individual cases. Using a qualitative multiple-case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five Filipino mathematics teachers working overseas and validated through informant triangulation. The data were analyzed using thematic and cross-case analysis. Findings indicate that migration is driven by professional stagnation, limited career mobility, economic pressures, and institutional constraints in the Philippine education system, alongside aspirations for professional growth and recognition. Push factors included slow promotion systems, bureaucratic restrictions, limited professional development opportunities, and repetitive instructional practices, while pull factors included higher compensation, improved working environments, exposure to global pedagogical practices, access to advanced teaching technologies, and participation in international professional networks. Despite adjustment challenges, participants demonstrated resilience and adaptability by adopting learner-centered teaching strategies, integrating digital tools in instruction, and developing intercultural competence in diverse classroom settings. They also reported increased professional confidence, expanded professional networks, and transformative personal growth. The study emphasizes teacher migration as both transformative for individuals and consequential for national education policy.
