Abstract
This study examined the influence of physical training and conditioning on the speed and acceleration performance of secondary school student-athletes. Anchored on educational psychology and physical education principles, the research sought to determine how structured training practices contribute to performance outcomes in school-based athletics. A predictive correlational research design was employed involving student-athletes participating in track and field events from selected public and integrated secondary schools in the First District of the Province of Bukidnon. Data were gathered using an adapted and validated structured questionnaire that assessed athletes’ engagement in physical training and conditioning components, including strength training, sprint drills, plyometrics, flexibility, recovery, and conditioning routines. Speed and acceleration performance indicators were likewise measured through performance-related items. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were utilized to analyze the data. Results revealed that physical training and conditioning significantly predicted athletes’ speed and acceleration performance. Findings indicate that structured, well-monitored training programs play a crucial role in enhancing athletic performance among secondary school athletes. The study underscores the importance of evidence-based physical education programs and supports the integration of scientifically grounded training approaches in school athletics. Implications for coaches, physical education teachers, and school administrators are discussed.
