Abstract
The study sought to find out the influence of respondents’ profiles in terms of English language used and parents’ educational attainment on learners’ English language proficiency of Grade 5 learners in Indahag Elementary School in the Division of Cagayan de Oro City for the School Year 2024-2025. Descriptive- correlational research method was utilized, and the Statistical tools used in the study were means to determine the level of the respondents’ profile in terms of the English language used. In contrast, frequency and percentages were used to determine the parents’ educational attainment and learners’ English language proficiency. Pearson's r was utilized to ascertain the significant relationship between the learners’ profiles in terms of English language used, parents’ educational attainment, and learners’ English language proficiency. Results showed that learners used the English language in external activities like reading English books, many of the respondents’ parents had vocational education, and a positive correlation between the English language used and parents’ academic attainment and learners’ English language proficiency. As a summary, to enhance English language used, it is recommended that teachers should encourage learners to use English language in their day-to-day activities and provide learners the home-school linguistic experience; to enhance parents’ support in intensifying learners’ English language use, it is recommended that teachers may forge collaboration with parents and other stakeholders to provide a home environment that promotes learners’ linguistic competence; to enhance English language proficiency, it is recommended that teachers should provide the content and language integrated learning and intensive language strategies.
