Abstract
This study aimed to assess students' grammatical competence in writing narrative texts at Lake Sebu National High School and to develop a worktext to support their improvement. The researcher employed a qualitative content analysis research design, involving twenty students from the Humanities and Social Sciences – Academic Track. The primary instrument of the study consisted of the students' narrative texts, which were analyzed using content analysis to determine their competence across various aspects of grammar, including the use of content and function words, spelling, punctuation, and the coherence of ideas. Based on the results, the students exhibited weaknesses in grammar across all aspects examined. It is recommended that the developed worktext be used as supplementary instructional material to enhance students' grammar skills. This study contributes to improving the quality of language education by providing a concrete solution to challenges in grammar.
