Abstract
The research "The Role of Distributed Leadership in Enhancing Collaborative Decision-Making in Schools" examined the ways in which distributed leadership affects collaborative decision-making in educational institutions. In particular, it aimed to address the following questions: 1. What are the roles of distributed leadership in advancing collaborative decision-making within schools? 2. What are the challenges faced by the school leaders in adopting distributed leadership for decision-making? and 3. What are the effective approaches in promoting and maintaining distributed leadership to foster collaborative decision-making in schools? More collaborative models are displacing traditional top-down models of leadership and aligning the collective know-how of different stakeholders. The study adopted a quantitative methodology with rating scale and weighted mean as statistical tools. There were 50 school heads randomly selected from Masbate Province to determine how distributed leadership can enhance decision-making processes. The results showed distributed leadership to have a marked impact on collaborative decision-making through enhancing shared responsibility culture, promoting diverse views, and enabling staff to assume leadership but challenges such as opposition to new leadership styles, limited time, and coordinating autonomy and accountability were seen. Further, there were effective strategies identified which include empowerment through delegation, open communication, and developing leadership teams. The research put forward suggestions that establishing trust-based culture and encouraging professional development are essential for distributed leadership to be effectively implemented. The conclusions made from the research emphasized that even though distributed leadership aids in collective decision-making, overcoming challenges such as resistance and time pressures is instrumental. Thus, it was suggested to prioritize professional development, conduct regular leadership training programs, and invest in distributed leadership. These actions can enable school leaders to increase collaborative decision-making and establish a more inclusive and effective leadership culture in schools.
