Abstract

This study aimed to determine which domain of perceived learning environment best predicts the motivation of physical education major students. The study utilized a quantitative method of research using correlational technique. A total of 221 students from three universities in Davao City were identified through stratified random sampling. Mean, Pearson r, and regression analysis were used as statistical tools of the study. Results revealed a very high level of perceived learning environment among physical education major students. In addition, students also demonstrated a high level of motivation. Moreover, results showed a significant, positive, but weak relationship between perceived learning environment and motivation of students, with effort/improvement and intra-class rivalry identified as the strongest predictors of student motivation. These findings provide valuable insights into the complex interplay between the learning environment and student motivation within the context of physical education, offering implications for educators and policymakers aiming to optimize learning experiences and outcomes for PE major students.
