Abstract

The study sought to assess the Sports Engagement and its implication to students’ academic performance in Bulua Central School for the School Year 2014-2025. Specifically, the study sought to answer the following questions: 1. How do pupils engage in sports in terms of the number of days played in sports in a week, the number of hours played in sports in a day; level of engagement in sports? 2. What is the pupils’ academic performance? 3. Do pupils’ academic performance correlate with sports engagements of pupils in terms of: number of days in sports; number of hours played; and level of engagement? The researcher utilized the descriptive method of research to attain the objectives set in this study. Further, it is concluded that rigid sports training and the amount of time spent on regular and scheduled physical engagement in sports are exhausting and draining, which, in effect, negatively affect or influence pupils' participation in school and academic activities and learning in the class. This, however, results in poor academic performance of student-athletes despite the grade requirements of players as prescribed by the school and the Department of Education (DepEd). However, some pupil-athletes perform better in their academic subjects in school because they do not lose focused and are still on track with their schooling.
