Abstract
English language anxiety is one of the problems encountered by students. They are hesitant to speak the second language because they fear making mistakes in terms of grammar and pronunciation. Thus, this study aimed to determine the students’ anxiety level and its relationship to their age and gender. The researcher used a descriptive correlational research design in the study, which included the 120 Junior High School students of MHS. Consequently, findings revealed that respondents feel anxious about participating in class. Also, results showed a significant relationship in determining the level of English language anxiety when they are grouped according to age, which indicates that the anxiety of the students affects their ability to communicate. After thorough analysis, the researchers recommended that the school administrators help and support the needs of the teachers to have more effective and efficient teaching strategies. Additionally, teachers may use speaking activities to help students boost their confidence in communication. Moreover, students may encourage themselves to be calm when speaking the English language. Lastly, this study may be a reference for other researchers to explore other factors related to students’ level of English language anxiety.
