Abstract
This study examined the caregiving responsibilities and coping strategies of grandparents in Davao Occidental who care for grandchildren aged 5 to 15 years old with behavioral and developmental disorders, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), speech delays, learning disabilities, and behavioral concerns such as aggression, impulsivity, tantrums, and defiance. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, it examined the lived experiences of five grandparent primary caregivers. The findings showed that grandparents faced financial, emotional, and physical challenges, especially in managing difficult behaviors. Despite this, they remained resilient through social support, religious faith, emotional attachment, and Filipino family values. The study concluded that grandparents cope with caregiving demands through adaptive strategies and cultural values. It highlights the need for community services, intervention programs, and support systems to improve their well-being.
