Abstract
This study focused on the lived experiences, challenges, coping mechanisms, and significant insights of seasoned police officers regarding their resignation in the Davao Region. The study utilized a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. A purposive sampling technique was employed, involving eight (8) participants for in-depth interviews (IDIs) and eight (8) for focus group discussions (FGDs). Using thematic analysis, the findings revealed that seasoned police officers experienced various work-related pressures that influenced their decision to leave the organization. These included work demands, physical and emotional strain, work-life imbalance, family conflict, financial strain, and safety concerns. In addition, personal and organizational factors, such as family-centered decisions, workplace inequality, authoritarian and biased leadership, and ethical conflicts, contributed to their resignation. The study also identified key insights and lessons to support retention, emphasizing the need for improved support systems, work-life balance, and organizational practices. The findings highlight the importance of implementing comprehensive support programs, promoting well-being, and establishing fair, ethical, and transparent policies. These measures may help enhance retention, improve morale, and strengthen organizational effectiveness. Understanding the challenges, coping mechanisms, and insights of seasoned police officers will benefit law enforcement agencies in developing effective strategies to improve retention, enhance morale, and strengthen organizational effectiveness and public trust.
