Abstract

This research study is entitled “The Impacts of Family Dynamics to the Educational Achievements Among College Students in a Private Institution in Gumaca”. A mixed-methods study was utilized in identifying the impacts of family dynamic to the educational achievement in terms of patterns of relationships, roles, and responsibilities, emotional and psychological aspects, and cultural and societal influence. The study involved eighty selected college students through a survey questionnaire as the main data gathering instrument. According to the findings, 52% of the respondents are females, indicating that the majority of the participants are women. In terms of age, most of the student-respondents are between 21 and 22 years old. The data also shows that the majority of the respondents are second-year college students. Furthermore, the results reveal that most of the student-respondents agree that family dynamics impact the educational achievements of college students in terms of patterns of relationships, emotional and psychological aspects, roles and responsibilities, and cultural and societal influences. Based on the result of the Kruskal-Wallis H-test, all the null hypotheses of age and sex are accepted, which means that there is no significant difference in the perceived impact of family dynamics on the educational achievements among college students. Moreover, the null hypothesis of year level is rejected, which means that there is a significant difference in the perceived impact of family dynamics on the educational achievements among college students. Based on the respondents’ experiences, family dynamics have a profound and multifaceted impact on the academic performance of college students. While supportive and nurturing family environments contribute positively to students’ motivation, confidence, and academic resilience, negative family conditions—such as high pressure, conflict, or lack of emotional support—can lead to stress, disengagement, and academic difficulties.
