Abstract
Flooding is one of the most damaging natural hazards in the Philippines, despite the presence of flood management initiatives; communities continue to face challenges due to weak infrastructure, poor drainage, and limited localized participation. This study aimed to determine the awareness and preparedness of residents of Barangay Bonfal Proper towards flood management, while also examining how age, sex, educational attainment, and purok influence these factors. The study employed a descriptive-comparative-correlational design using a quantitative-qualitative approach. Results revealed that residents are generally highly aware and highly prepared to respond to floods. However, lower mean scores remain in localized risk perception, limited participation in evacuation drills, and inconsistent maintenance of emergency supplies. Significant differences were observed in age groups in awareness and across puroks in all factors. Correlation analysis showed that greater awareness contributes to stronger preparedness. Residents further emphasized the importance of better drainage, enhanced flood-control infrastructure, proper and stricter waste management, and sustained education campaigns. This study highlights that strengthening flood management plans through continuous improvement in flood awareness and preparedness enhances their effectiveness.
