Abstract
The rising consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages among students raised health concerns in Apad National High School. This study examined the acceptability of Pungo (Nypa fruticans) Shake as a healthy, affordable, and locally sourced alternative to soft drinks during S.Y. 2025–2026. Employing a descriptive–comparative research design, data were collected from a stratified random sample of 135 students from Grades 7 to 12 through a standardized test that measured sensory attributes such as taste, texture, appearance, packaging, affordability, and overall satisfaction. The results indicated that students were highly accepting of the shake’s sweet taste, texture, appearance, packaging, affordability, and perceived health benefits, including hydration and cooling effects. Statistical analyses using independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA showed no significant differences in acceptability based on sex. Although minor variations were observed across grade levels and age groups, overall ratings remained consistently high. The study concluded that Pungo Shake was widely accepted by students and recommended that the school promote it as a nutritious beverage alternative, integrate it into health and nutrition lessons, and support further research on its acceptability and educational impact as a local health product.
