Abstract
The study sought to find out how students engage in sports and athletics in terms of the number of days played in sports/athletics in a week, the number of hours played in sports/athletics in a day, and engagement in sports and athletics and students’ learning outcomes. Descriptive- correlational research method was utilized, and the Statistical tools used in the study were mean and standard deviations to ascertain the students’ sports and athletic engagement, frequency count, and percentages to determine the students’ learning outcomes. Spearman's rho was utilized to ascertain a significant relationship between students’ academic performance and sports engagements. Findings revealed that in sports and athletics, engagement, as indicated by the number of hours played, indicates a low or slight relationship, as proved by the computed value of .234, which is greater than the tabular value of .056. Hence, the null hypothesis was rejected. On the contrary, the number of days played in sports/ athletics in a week and engagement in sports and athletics signify a negligible correlation. It means the two variables do not affect or influence the learning outcomes of the students; hence, the null hypothesis was accepted. As a summary, it was recommended that there is a need to intensify or strengthen the school’s sports training and engagement programs to level up performance in district or division-level sports competition. It is not surprising that the regional contenders or student-athletes would miss several golds in Palarong Pambansa because the training programs of athletes are insufficient and not stable.
