Abstract
The study sought to determine the influence of sports engagements of pupils and their academic performance. Results show that sports engagement in terms of the number of days the pupils are engaged in a week affects students’ academic performance, while sports engagement in terms of the number of hours the pupils are involved in sports in a day and the level of pupils’ sports engagement do not affect or influence pupils’ academic performance. It was recommended that the school heads should inspire teachers to develop the sports development program, which creates a framework that inspires pupils to engage in sports and, at the same time, intensifies their academic performance. Additionally, teachers are also encouraged to develop pupils’ resiliency in actively participating in sports and, at the same time, strengthen their academic performance.
