Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the influence of parenting styles and self-compassion on academic procrastination among mathematics education students in a local college in Davao del Norte. The study is quantitative research that utilizes a descriptive-correlational approach. A sample of 152 randomly selected mathematics education students who were identified using stratified random sampling answered the surveys on the three variables. This study used the following statistical tools to obtain the results: mean, Pearson r, and regression. Results showed that the level of parenting styles and self-compassion were high, while the level of academic procrastination was moderate. Results also revealed that there is a significant relationship between parenting styles and academic procrastination. Likewise, there is also a significant relationship between self-compassion and academic procrastination. Moreover, results show that domains of parenting styles such as authoritarian parenting and permissive parenting can significantly influence academic procrastination. Finally, it was revealed that domains of self-compassion, such as self-kindness, isolation, and over-identification, can significantly predict the academic procrastination of the respondents. Results imply that the variables influence the academic procrastination of mathematics education students.
