Abstract
The study aimed to describe the lived experiences of first year education students in a local college on the attitudes of students towards writing. This study engaged mixed method design, utilizing parallel convergent approach. The participants of the study were the education students from first year level. There were 258 students who were randomly selected for quantitative and 10 for the qualitative: five (5) for in-depth interview and five (5) for focus group discussion which were purposively selected. In the quantitative phase, the results revealed that the attitudes of students towards writing was high. In qualitative phase, it was revealed that their lived experiences were the effects of emotional and psychological barriers in writing, crucial role of writing within the realm of education, versatility of writing as a tool for expression and interaction, and writing skills development. Additionally, the students’ insights shared were building vocabulary and clarity in written communication, passion in writing, effective writing strategies for writing enhancement, and fostering writing excellence. Furthermore, the quantitative data mostly corroborated with the qualitative data.
