Roles and Instructional Competency of Head Teachers in the New Normal: Basis for Instructional Supervisory Model

Abstract

The study assessed the roles and instructional competency of the head teachers in different public high schools in the Division of Antipolo City, during the School Year 2021-2022. In general, the head teachers and teachers both perceived the role of head teachers in supervision during the new normal as Very High Level. The profile of the respondents in terms of the different variables registered no significant correlation with their perceptions about the level of implementation of the role of head teachers during the new normal with respect to Instructional, Motivational, and Communication. Significant correlation is spotted between the sex and the perceptions of the head teachers with respect to coaching. Meanwhile, there is no significant correlation among other profile variables. The profile of the teachers in terms of sex showed significant correlations on their perceptions about the implementation of the role of head teachers in supervision during this new normal with respect to Instructional, Communication, and Coaching. No significant correlation was found between the profile variables of teachers and their perceptions with respect to Motivational. In addition, the head teachers and teachers both assessed the instructional competence of head teachers as Very Much Competent. Moreso, the assessment of the two groups of respondents about the instructional competence of head teachers showed no significant difference with respect to Diversity of Learners, Learning Environment, and Assessment and Evaluation. However, their assessment registered significant difference with respect to Content Knowledge and Pedagogy. The head teachers and teachers perceived that supervisory and instructions during the new normal is Very Much A Challenge. For the head teachers having no time or resources necessary to perform each of their various responsibilities well” is the top challenge for them, while teachers picked uncooperative attitude of teachers.
