Abstract

This study explores the possibilities of Krypto games as a new strategy for enhancing the basic integer operation of Grade 10 students of Apad National High School. We are aware that there are many students who have hard time with integer operations, an import aspect of math that is a prerequisite for learning other concepts such as algebra or problem-solving. Understanding this, the value of creative methods of encouraging computational fluency in a fun and non-threatening manner is advocated in the study. To investigate this, a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was used in the study. Students attended traditional math lessons where Krypto Games were used as game-based learning. Pre- and post-measurements were used to assess and to compare pupils' progress before and after the intervention. The results clearly demonstrated a positive impact on their average performance due to the use of Krypto Games. Students were more motivated, more involved and had a better grasp of integer operations. Not only did the intervention help the learners develop their mathematical/math skills, but it also enhanced learner motivation and participation in the classroom. In general, the results validate the effectiveness of interactive student-centered methods in teaching mathematics. Games-based strategies, such as those used at Krypto Games, offer an efficient way to augment authentic learning of mathematics in a fun and meaningful way. By transforming abstract concepts into a game, you are much more likely to engage kids and have them truly learn something about the subject. The current study recommends further investigation and inclusion of these strategies in the syllabus to improve academic achievement and liking of the subject by its learners.
