Abstract
Education in the 21st century requires improvements in the performance of teachers and school leaders to keep pace with rapid globalization. This study employed a descriptive-correlational research design, involving 82 teachers from District 5 in Bayawan City, Negros Oriental. For the research, instruments were adapted from Petroski (2005) to assess the quality of teachers' work life, and from the Leadership Competency Instrument (LCI, 2017) developed by the Razak School of Government (RSOG, 2017) to evaluate the leadership competencies of school heads. Statistical tools such as frequency and percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient were used for analysis. The findings indicated that the quality of work life for teachers, in terms of capacity development, social integration within the work organization, professional growth, and job security, was rated high, with a mean score of 3.80 and a standard deviation of 0.600. Similarly, the leadership competencies of school heads, encompassing personal and social skills, management skills, leadership skills, and transformative skills, were rated highly competent, with a mean score of 4.08 and a standard deviation of 0.589. The reported correlation coefficient of 0.647 suggests a moderate correlation between the two variables. However, there is a recognized need for a training program to enhance both the quality of teachers' work life and the leadership competencies of school heads. This initiative could help foster a positive culture within the District 5, Schools Division of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental.
