Mismatch Between Stem Skills and Industry Demands: Basis for Career Framework for Senior High School

Abstract

This research study explored the skills mismatch between STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and industry demands as a basis for developing a career framework for Senior High School students. The aim of the study is to identify the gaps between the skills acquired through STEM education and skills required by industries, with the goal of informing the development of a career framework. The research methodology includes literature review, surveys, interviews with industry experts, and analysis of existing STEM skills. Finding suggests that there is a misalignment between the skills taught in Senior High School STEM program and the skills demanded by industries. Implications of this mismatch as discussed, and recommendations are provided for the design of a career framework that better prepares students for future careers in STEM related fields. The study highlights the importance of bridging the gap between education and industry demands to endure that Senior High School students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the workplace.
