Abstract
This action research study investigates the implementation and impact of digital transformation strategies aimed at enhancing student engagement and learning outcomes within a large public university in Brazil. Aligned with the principles of the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), this research addresses the pressing need for higher education institutions to adapt to evolving technological landscapes and student expectations. Utilizing a cyclical action research methodology, the study involved the collaborative design, implementation, and evaluation of integrated digital tools and pedagogical approaches across selected undergraduate courses. Key strategies included the adoption of an advanced learning management system (LMS) with interactive features, personalized learning pathways, and faculty professional development focused on digital pedagogies. Data were collected through student surveys, faculty interviews, focus groups, and analysis of learning analytics and academic performance metrics. Findings indicate a significant improvement in perceived student engagement, evidenced by increased participation in online discussions, higher completion rates for interactive assignments, and positive qualitative feedback regarding the learning experience. Furthermore, preliminary analysis suggests a positive correlation between the implemented strategies and enhanced learning outcomes, including improved academic performance and student retention in intervention groups. This study offers practical insights and a scalable blueprint for universities seeking to leverage digital transformation to foster a more engaging and effective learning environment, contributing to the global discourse on innovation in higher education.
