Abstract

The growing prevalence of academic involution in higher education is increasingly concerning. The mediating role of polycultural identity in the relationship between higher education institution reputation branding and academic involution among indigenous students was determined. A predictive research design was applied. The data from 154 students, selected through purposive sampling, were analyzed using mediating analysis technique. The results showed moderate and partial mediation, which affirms Cultural Ecological Theory, while highlighting paradoxical tensions between institutional branding and polycultural identity. Future studies may examine additional variables to account for the remaining 0.725 variance in the mediation. School leaders may strengthen culturally inclusive branding and community partnerships to support Indigenous learners' transition into higher education.
