Sharing a thesis with your supervisor

Your supervisor can work on your thesis from their own SciMatic account.

Share it
  1. Set your supervisor in the Supervisor part of the front matter and click Save. If they are not in your list, add them with their name and e-mail address.
  2. Click Share in the sidebar of the thesis editor and confirm.

Your supervisor receives an e-mail saying you have shared your thesis, and finds it under Thesis Shared with Me in their own My Thesis list. If you added them as a new person, an account was opened for that address: they sign in with an e-mailed link, Google or Facebook.

What your supervisor can do

A shared supervisor has full access. They can read and edit every part of the thesis, the front matter and every chapter, and build its PDF.

There are no comments or tracked changes, so agree with your supervisor how you will work. For example, they can write their remarks into the text in square brackets, and you remove each one once you have dealt with it. (Do not use the Marker style for remarks: Thesis Manager reads marked text as abbreviations.)

Good to know
  • Only you, the owner of the thesis, can share it.
  • The share goes to the supervisor set in the front matter. If you change your supervisor, save and share again.
  • Everything your supervisor changes is saved in the same thesis; there is one copy, not two.
