Abstract

--- EMOTIONALLY APPEALING BLENDED-LEARNING SOLUTIONS AND THEIR IMPACT ON UNIVERSITY STUDENTS’ MOTIVATION Abstract The challenges of exploiting the potential of ICT, using it as a means of teaching and learning, taking into account methodological and teaching postulates, and a dynamic workplace and learning environment have led to a professional small-scale blended-learning project at two universities. Based on the principles of the framework curriculum for teaching German to university students alongside the subjects in their academic program and on the students’ term projects for the semester, the article first presents blended learning concepts and summarizes the theoretical basis for emotions and their impact on learning achievement. It then shows what emotions mean for learning and how emotions can encourage and facilitate autonomous learning through online opportunities. Motivation strategies are discussed, supported by the motivational-psychological model for e-learning opportunities. There are concrete examples of how such models can be integrated and implemented into the Learning Management System (LMS) in order to motivate students and to achieve satisfaction with results among learners. Finally, the article emphasizes the importance of student motivation and the teacher’s role in designing methodologically and educationally appropriate blended learning solutions.
