Abstract
Eurocommunism represented a unique ideological metamorphosis of several communist parties from Western Europe, namely the Spanish, French and the Italian one. It occurred in the second half of the 1970’s, due to a series of circumstances briefly analyzed in this essay. Eurocommunism is not to be confounded with social-democracy, although the two left wing currents share important characteristics. But how did Eurocommunism look in the eyes of an orthodox Leninist regime, like that of the Socialist Republic of Romania? Ambivalent, as we are about to find out.
