Abstract

This article is the result of the research entitled "Subjective aspects of permanence condition of students of popular classes at the Federal University of Paraíba" which discusses the challenges faced by students in continuing process at the university. The research is qualitative basis and case study performed with Pedagogy course students (deepening area in the field of education), which investigates the individual trajectories youth in social vulnerability situation in higher education. The instruments used for data collection were questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire data possible to trace the social profile of students from the variables: sex; color; type of school and education and occupation of parents, also allowed choosing the subjects to be interviewed. The interviews gave up three young people considered vulnerable, and analyzed from Bardin speech analysis (1977) and the theoretical foundations of Bourdieu (2002), Zago (2006), Vargas (2009) among others. Through the collected reports, it was possible to infer that within the university, and other various processes of exclusion occur and require new and different challenges to stay with completion in higher education.
