In July of 2008 just before the publication of the magnum opus Geografia
histórica do Rio de Janeiro Maurício Abreu gave an interview to Laurent Vidal, a visiting professor at the Department of Geography of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In addition to treating the content of the book, which was the result of twenty years of research, his intellectual formation and participation in structuring the field of Historical Geography in Brazil also were discussed in detail.
