Abstract

Companies that want to be in existence in the future base their strategies on quality, cost and speed superiority. Quality has been an important competition element. Nowadays, not only quality control department but also all staff leaded by management are responsible for quality. In other words, quality has moved from workshop to management room. Companies in Blacksea Region Forest Products Industry can not separate itself from getting into global competition. The aim of this study is to examine the Forest Products Industry from the quality management’s perspective and to establish current status. For this purpose, thirty Forest Products Companies employing 25 or more workers in Blacksea Region were selected. Data were obtained through face to face questionnaires with those in charge of quality control in companies using The Simple Random Sampling in which all the companies has the equal probability of being involved. In the process of determining the questions used in the questionnaire, other relevant studies done in different sectors were consulted. Questions were organized in two different types; questions with alternative answers and questions without alternative answers. Data were analyzed using Fisher’s X2 test and X2 test. As a result, it was concluded that companies were unsuccessful in determining and spreading the quality policies on all departments of the companies. Companies except for the ones producing fiber and particle board were not aware of the contemporary quality conceptions.
