Abstract
The aim of this article is to compare some episodes of delirium occuring during the main characters’ death as depicted in Machado de Assis’ The Posthumous Memories of Bras Cubas and Flaubert’s A simple soul. The comparative process lead to a reflection on the relations between literature and psychoanalysis and on the mimetic attributes of description.
