The scientific events are considered efficient means of communication of knowledge. The studies of scientific evaluations carried out in Brazil note the representation of these channels for the dissemination of the science. Given this evidence, goal of this research is to evaluate the contribution of the National Seminar of University Libraries – SNBU in the production and dissemination of knowledge in the field of Library Science and Information Science. The research included two steps. The first involved the analysis of the production of scientific studies published in the literature and which were made from the analysis of the communications presented in the National Seminar ofUniversity Libraries since its first edition, to identify the variables examined in thesestudies and from them, knowing the behavior and specificities of this production. In thesecond stage was performed the analysis of 5,403 references cited in the 429 communications presented in SNBUs, 2000, 2002 and 2004. Among the types ofdocuments cited, books / chapters of books appear in the first place with 34.3%, followed by articles in journals as the most quoted, with a greater percentage of publications in Portuguese. The Annals of scientific events, with 10.3% showing a growth of quotations attributed to new formats for the dissemination of this material from the use of information technologies and communication. Still, it is possible to say little utilization of the Annals, hypothesis of this inquiry of that the events seem to have more representation in the disclosure of which in its own use in the construction / production of new knowledge.
